Sky Islands is a small game made by a dad and his son for friends and family. These are the rules for playing it and what happens with your character. By making a character you agree to them.
To play you choose a character name and a secret PIN (4–8 digits). The name is how the game knows which character is yours; the PIN is what keeps other people out of it. Only a scrambled version of your PIN is stored — nobody, not even the game keeper, can read it back. If you forget your PIN the game keeper can set a new one for you.
Please don't use your real full name, your address or anything else private as a character name. A nickname is perfect.
Nothing else is collected: no e-mail, no real name, no tracking or advertising. Everything is stored only on the home computer that runs the game; nothing is sent to other companies. The list of characters on the front page (name, level, achievements and whether you are playing right now) is visible to everyone who opens this site.
So the game stays fun and fair for everyone, the people who run Sky Islands (the game keeper) can look at and change any character at any time. That includes, for example:
Changes take effect right away, also while you are playing — you'll see a message in the game when something was changed. Decisions of the game keeper are final, but you can always make a new character.
Your character is saved on your own device first and uploaded to the Sky Islands server whenever it can be reached — so you can keep playing when the server is asleep, and your progress is uploaded the next time it is awake. The game keeper can close the game for everyone at any moment (for example if someone is cheating or trying to break in). Anyone playing is then returned to the title screen and can come back when it reopens.
Sky Islands is a hobby project offered for free, as it is. The server runs on a home computer, so the game may be offline sometimes and progress can, in rare cases, be lost. We do our best, but we can't promise the game or your character will always be available.
You can erase your character yourself from the title screen (it asks for the PIN), or ask the game keeper to delete it. Deleting removes everything listed above.
